When I first started driving, I returned a pair of eyeglasses left in my car. Since then I have had to stop. It doesn't make sense to return lost items because if you follow Uber's rules it actually costs you money. So, I made an economic decision and I don't make the effort anymore. Now, if the pax reaches out to me and makes an offer of compensation, then I'll make the effort if the price is right.

I prefer to drop the lost item off at the nearest police station, however if the pax was particularly pesky, put in the effort to go to a police far far away from the pax.

Passengers WILL waste your time fixing their mistake. They'll expect you to run across town for NO compensation.

Like @Harry Flashman suggested, tell them the furthest Police Station you can conveniently get to. If that doesn't suit them tell them your VIP parcel rate to their location and have them agree on COD.

ALWAYS be paid for your time. You are an independent contractor. Not a slave.
