Hi there, I'm a Postmates user. In my last order I paid a larger than average delivery fee (compared to other food delivery services), 9% service charge & a tip. I'd like to know how much of this a delivery personnel actually gets.

How does this compare against another delivery service like DoorDash?

Postmates and any and all other middleman-type technology companies whose business model rely heavily on contracting out their driving segment of their business to on-demand IC / PC drivers are a huge boon to the IC / PC drivers of the world. Because, higher demand for their services means higher average earnings for such drivers. And judging from the field reports as well as rants from some drivers, if anyone needs a boost to their earnings in our society, it would be the on-demand drivers in our cities.

From your own experience of Ubering in Johannesburg and in San Fran, what were your average per-hour earnings (before and after car and all other expenses in the two cities)? Averages should be fine, don't have to be very accurate. Just wanted to have a general idea of the ballpark figures or ranges. That is, avg per-hour earnings in San Fran and Johannesburg before all expenses, and avg per-hour earnings in San Fran and Johannesburg after all expenses. Thank you.

In San Fran, your Ubering vs your Postmating, which one, on average, usually gives you a higher per-hour earnings rate? Which one has more downtime?

I use to make around $12 - $13 Per hour After all commission and expense with Uber in Johannesburg. Here in San I dont drive for Uber but I do deliveries for postmates. Very less in postmates, apprx. $8 - $9 in postmates but something i like delivering food rather than moving out peoples :)

Postmates always busy in lunch and dinner. probably u can make more bucks with less travel but they need to improve lot in collective food ordering

I think if Postmates delivery work pays 10-20% less than TNC driving does in the same neighborhood in the same city, then it makes sense because, like you said, the former deals much less with the potentially complaining and at times emotionally unpredictable customers (more specifically, the interaction time between drivers and passengers is much longer than that for delivery drivers and food-ordering customers).

You are right. Sometimes, It make our life easier. One thing I like is Postmates encourage customer to tip the drivers. If i get good customer, tats my Day.

I agree. From field reports filed by drivers as well as common sense, I would guess drivers for food deliveries can potentially make as much as (or more) in tips as their base earnings, while Lyft and Uber drivers' tips as a percentage of base earnings are more like 2-5% and 5-10%, respectively.

What is the name of the app company (competitor to Postmates) you were talking about? I couldn't find it after using Bing.

I think they are operating in Stealth mode. As per my conversation, They revealing their App in tech conference in April. Now, They testing their Beta version. I got a email from them stating that friend of mine refereed me to join as beta users. After 2 round of briefing then I am in for the Beta. They gave me 2 Referral Codes to refer any of my friends to join in Beta.
