We are a group of socially conscious entrepreneurs that believe the existing ride sharing models are engaged in unfair business practices. Namely we believe that the current revenue share business models are unfair to Drivers.

We want to know your opinion on this subject. If interested, please take the following quick survey.

I think Uber and Lyft are giving two options to drivers: come and lose money driving UberX and Lyft, or come make some money driving UberSelect and UberSUV.

But the problem I think is that if you driver for UberX then you probably have a civic, prius, or other mid-budget car, where if you driver for UberSelect or UberSUV, you can make more money in fares, but your expenses are higher which means you net the same amount of money

Not really. You can run the maths yourself.

The three major parts of car expenses that can be traced on a per mile basis are depreciation, maintenance and repair (MAR), and fuel.

Fuel probably costs 2 to 5 cents more per mile for Select and SUV. Depreciation may be 15 to 20 cents per mile vs UberX cars' depreciation of 10 to 15 cents per mile. MAR may likely be about similar. So, the differential in car related, per-mile operating costs is around 10 cents per mile or less. But look at the differential in fares drivers can get by driving Select or SUV versus driving the basic UberX.
